自20世纪70年代末引入系统功能语言学以来，我国功能语言学界对该理论进行了各方面的探讨，著述频出，但鲜有应用同一理论同时对英语、汉语两种语言进行系统性研究的书籍。本套丛书每个主题都有两个分册，分别对英、汉语言进行分析，希望既有益于英语学界读者，又有益于汉语学界读者，也有益于从事两种语言对比研究的学者。
《英语功能句法分析》与《汉语功能句法分析》是姊妹篇，旨在帮助广大读者从英汉双路径的功能语言学理论应用视角一窥句法分析门径。两书均以系统功能语言学内部的加的夫模式为主要理论基础，并适当参照悉尼模式。
